I am not able to install shockwave on my computer. I have gone through all the
solutions and nothing seems to work. I went back and downloaded the full
version. When I run it it appears to have installed but it doesn't show up
anywhere. The installation file downloaded to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed for
XP. I have tried installing it from there and it won't open nor do any error
messages appear. I then downloaded the full version from Macromedia to my
desktop and tried to install it from there but it doesn't install. I have
removed it a couple of times with the remove tool and then reinstalled it. I
have checked my firewall and active x controls but nothing seems to work. Any
help I would appreciate it. My system is Windows XP and I have the latest
Internet Explorer. I also checked the computer administrator settings and they
were okay.:disgust;

I wonder if anyone reads this forum, because it seems like this problem abounds
with the latest installer, but there is nobody from Adobe/MM responding to the
issue. Take a look at this thread too.

Exact same problem here...

Go to download page, click "install now," click through security prompts in
IE, when it gets to the "install" dialog, after I click "install," I get
another IE security "click here to use activex control," the installer dialog
goes away, the banner in the background goes to a red x, and it just sits
there.... nothing.

This is the first time I ever had any kind of problem with Macromedia
Shockwave or Flash. The lack of response from Macromedia to this problem is
definitely not a good sign...

This one had me stuck for a while.

It could be that your browser is preventing certain ActiveX processes from
taking place. Downloading Macromedia components requires ActiveX components to
be enabled.

For example, if you're using Internet Explorer:
1. Click on "Tools".
2. Click on "Internet Options"
3. Click on the "Security" tab.
4. Click on the "Custom Level" button.
5. You'll be presented with a list of settings. Make sure that all the
ActiveX settings are enabled (some of them are probably disabled). Remember
what they are so you can change them back later, if you like.
6. Click "OK".
7. Go to the Macromedia download page and give it a whirl.

Also, if you are running programs to prevent adware from being placed on your
computer, there may be some settings in the software that prohibit ActiveX
components. Again, ActiveX is required for downloading Macromedia products.
So check the settings on your anti-adware/anti-spyware software. I have also
heard of people who removed their anti-adware programs but remnants of the
software were still around and still prohibiting some ActiveX processes.

Cheers!

I have used the uninstall from MM on both shockwave and flash. Re-installed
Flash and tried to re-install shockwave but couldn't. I got the yahoo toolbar
and shockwave shows up in my add/remove programs but still cannot play games
because I keep getting the message that I don't have shockwave. I didn't have
this problem till I did an IE update and they say they can't help me because
it's MM's problem not theirs. So now I don't know what to do. Any suggestions??

I, too, was having problems not auto-installing.

So, I tried Firefox on a machine I am building and then used it to try to
download flash but their program couldn't recognize what platform I was using
and gave me a link to a page with all the different platform setup programs on
it.

I had the same problem with the move to shockwave player 10. Here is how I
fixed my problem: First of all I downloaded the uninstaller and the installer
from the adobe alternate page :
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp
I uninstalled the shockwave player.... the flash player installed fine. When
I attempted to install the new player, I noticed that there was a red minus
sign in the very bottom of the Internet explorer page. I clicked on it and it
said cookies were being blocked on that particular page. This was odd since I
had everything set to accept all cookies, first and third party. I chose the
option to allow this.... I believe this may be the Google popup blocker... and
when a popup page is popped up with no address bar in it to choose block or
unblock, it was automatically blocked. Once I chose to allow it and then I ran
the install, the player installed with no problems. I can now access the
shockwave pages with no problems.

i have been trouble shooting this problem for 3 days . at first i thought i had
parasites or browser hijackers. i have read through dozens of forums, followed
all the advice and nothing works. uninstalled and installed firefox and
shockwave many times.
Upon a very careful and thorough trial and error test, i have come to the
conclusion that this is mainly happening when Firefox attempts to access a page
with youtube embedded in the page. I notice i am having some very normal
webbrowsing, until i get to specific blogs that have embedded videos.

Try this!!!

On your explorer toolbar, click on Tools. Click on Manage Add-ons. Even if
you have uninstalled Shockwave, you should still have a Shockwave Add-on
management tool on this page. Click on the Shockwave line, then click on
"Update this add-on" at the bottom of the page. Your computer should update
the add-on, then take you directly into installing Shockwave.

Good luck!!

I've had Flash 8 on my system for awhile, but Shockwave Player 10.1 won't
install, tho it looks like it is. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, used the
alternate installer, and still the same results. In fact, at the end, where
there's a plug-in on the installation complete page, instead I get a message
that the plug-in hasn't been installed, and that sends me back in a loop to the
slim installer. The installer opens Opera 8.5x, but should that matter? I'm
stuck (XP/SP2).

Look.

For all of you. Shockwave will work PERFECTLY fine in internet explorer, if
you haven't messed with the settings too much.

However, if you use Firefox, Opera, Netscape, or anything else, it likely will
not work. That is because the problem is coming from Adobe's website's, not our
computers. Maybe they are having server trouble, or haven't uploaded the
downloader file yet.

This is likely due to what sounds like Adobe strating to update the website
for the update by taking off the old update, then forgetting to put up the new.
None of our browsers can access the download site or file because IT DOESN'T
EXIST.

Not even from the firefox download plugins page, which just redirects you here
anyways.

So, BE PATIENT and wait until they fix the problem. If you want to
help, email a customer service member and tell them to fix it for browsers
other than Interne Explorer.

Thank you. I hope I have cleared this situation up.

The following registry hack was suggested to me that makes Shockwave think
Netscape is present. Of course, backup the registry before starting, and
adjust paths per the user's setup.

Oh ! And another quick note - Flash player downloads and runs perfectly . =D

even get the Shockwave prompt .. ( "Do you want to install and run Shockwave

Players Testing page ..(http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome ) it says I
should get prompted for an update for the players - but I get nothing, except a
little Flash player box playing an animation saying "Installation complete"
for, of course, Flash Player .. But shockwave is the same blank frame with the
broken icon . I've tried adjusting all my ActiveX control, Java applet, and
security settings and it still won't work .. Any help at all ? =D

Ahh .. Seems like I'm having kind of the same problem . Shockwave and Flash
were working fine on my computer but I was getting different errors on my
computer, so I reformatted and recovered my system, and awhile later, I went to
download Shockwave to play one of my favorite games ( InkLink =D ) and it
prompted me and I saw the progress bars, but it stops a little after the bar
reaches the middle and says its installing, and tells me in my browser's top
bar that the "Installation is complete" but when I got redirected to the page
after installing, I got the blank frame with the "broken" icon in it . I have
read through the TechNotes and tried every solution and nothing .. I have also
emailed Adobe support staff and they said the problem was with my browser but
that doesn't make sense, because I had the same browser and it had been working
. I also tried installing AOL to download and that didn't work either . I have
dealt with this problem for weeks without hardly ANY help from Adobe . I hope
this gets fixed soon . >=o

I have problems updating shockwave plugin 10.1.3.018 for Internet Explorer
6.0.2600.0000 updaate version q313829 on Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222A.

The update cripples the existing functioning shockwave 10.0r210 plugin for
Internet Explorer. But, the same plugin updates Firefox 1.01 perfectly. I
think (I am not certain) the Firefox had no Shockwave plugin previously
installed.

For Windows XP professional 2002 service pack 1, I have shockwave update
10.1.3.018 working perfectly for both Internet Explorer
6.0.2800.1106.XPsp1.020828-1920 and Firefox 1.01

I am not certain of the previously installed version of shockwave for Internet
Explorer running Windows XP professional above.

This has caused much agony. and wasted time!

I do not seem to have a problem with downloading as long as i turn off the

What can I say? I guess this is how it feels to be shafted.

I have followed the instructions to resolve the problem, and disabled the
popup blocker, restarted the system, and ...

still no Shockwave player.

My attitude is very simple, when a provider lets me down, I don't go back. And
I tell my friends what happened. I am truly appalled that Adobe has such
a lackadaisical attitude to an apparently major, persistent

Did you actually see this work or are you just reporting second hand? In any
case, anyone using WinME and Windows Firewall is bound to be having lots of
problems. No one else has reported 10.1 to be a business version. Allowing
popups and disabling the firewall do not solve the problem with XP and Opera 9,
and if they did it would be the sign of programming problems at Adobe. The
registry hack or trying v.9 are the best ideas I've seen so far.

If you look at my threads you'll see i have a screenshot
,Loading Image..., i took where it shows
Firefox and the game SuperbikeGS which is on Miniclip. com and this game uses
shockwave. The thread says FIREFOX SCREENSHOT: COMPATIBLE WITH
SHOCKWAVE......and as far as the win me not allowing active-x where we could
not get the windows media player downloaded..both of these issues were first
hand and not heard or seen from someone else. Some of you people are under the
impression Adobe monitors these forums:they could care less..to get results go
to the page where you report BUGS and you'll get a reply..i know,i did!

I?VE FOUND THE SOLUTION !!!!

In my case, I had to reinstall my Windows 2000. When I wanted to download the
Shockwave, nothing happened with the last version ( 10.1) and I?ve tried to
install and unsinstall the Player and the Shockwave but nothing happen. The
problem was that my new Windows 2000 could not support the last version of
Shockwave.
Here are the 2 addresses where you can download older versions. TRY THAT !!!
I?ve worked on my computer.

FLASH: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14266

SHOCKWAVE: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18629

Ok, I was having trouble in win98 after install of flash and shockwave updates.
neither would work in Internet Explorer but partly worked in Netscape.
I am happy to say all is now fixed and my shockwave and flash are working
perfectly.
What did I do to make this work?

I tried the delete history and cached filed with no success, I then tried
MOVING the temporary internet files to a different drive in my system. And
suddenly everything worked! My computer had become slugish after these installs
and now is running fast as ever.

You are having problems you might give this a try, move your temporary
internet files to a different folder or drive in your settings. Maybe it will
work for you too.

ok....since your question was created months ago, you've probably already heard
a thousand answers already, so its not as much of a problem
(hopefully:embarrassment;) that I dont have an answer to your question. I had
(well, am still having) that problem with my internet explorer refusing to play
shockwave player games. Instead it loads the game with an annoying little
square with different colors in it. I have no idea how to fix that but I did
discover an alternative solution that will allow you to play the shockwave
games. I had to download Mozilla Firefox which let me install the shockwave
player without a problem. Of course i've heard a billion times that if its
installed on my computer it should work with internet explorer. It should but
it just doesn't. I hope i was able to help out someone with this frusterating
issue.

Hello,
Ive been trying for months to get Shockwave to work and finally it now
works.This is what I did....
I have Windows XP Home Edition and I downloaded my SP2 Update from Microsoft
then rebooted my pc. I first went to the Windows sign in the upper right corner
and unlocked all toolbars and disabled all Anti-Virus's/Firewall-Then I
downloaded the New Internet Explorer 7 which on Dial-up took 4+ hours. After
doing all that I rebooted pc then I came back to Adobe and downloaded Shockwave
Slim Player and it worked. I went to my favorite game site Neopets and I was
able to finally play my favorite game Frumball. I did have to wait a few
minutes while the game downloaded all the Xtra's it needed then the game loaded
fine.
I hope this helps, If you haven't done what I have it wouldn't hurt to try it
cause its taken me months to get it to finally work.
Good luck

On your explorer toolbar, click on
Toolshttp://www.dmitrimarkine.com/fashion-photographer.Click on Manage
Add-onshttp://www.dmitrimarkine.com/africa-weddingEven if you have uninstalled
Shockwave, you should still have a Shockwave Add-on management tool on this
page. Click on the Shockwave
linehttp://www.dmitrimarkine.com/jamaica-weddingthen click on "Update this
add-on" at the bottom of the page. Your computer should update the
add-onhttp://www.dmitrimarkine.com/kitchener-photothen take you directly into
installing Shockwave.

vista home prem64, firefox 3.04. plugins under tools menu show flash and
shockwave for director 11 installed. using adobe site, flash confirmed but not
shockwave. revo uninstaller shows shockwave 11 installed, but curiously, no
install location. so, what is the installation program doing, writing to
nowhere but the registry and not triggering an error? tried sw_unstaller and
revo before re-install of shockwave full 11. still no success.

this site requires registration prior to prompting for direct support.
shockwave player not registration-able. over 30 months and counting ...

clarification: the installer placed the folder adobe\shockwave 11 in the
windows\syswow64 folder. somehow, the registry must not be pointing to this
folder, instead to the windows\system32.
when i inquire from revo uninstaller the shockwave 11 install location, it
responds that sw11 is not at the system32 location. strangely, revo is able to
activate the unwise.exe at the sw11 folder. can anyone help me connect the
dots?

third post is the charm. once i resolved the confusion with the revo
uninstaller error message and located the installation folder in
windows\syswow64, i copied the handful of dll files in shockwave 11 to the
firefox\plugins folder. revisited the adobe test site and both flash and
shockwave are now confirmed installed.
